In the world of gospel music, few voices carry the grace, depth, and sincerity of Londiwe Sphe Nxumalo-Sangweni. A minister of the Gospel and a worshipper at heart, Londiwe’s journey has been one of faith, purpose, and perseverance. From her early years in Swaziland to her breakthrough with Joyous Celebration and now as a flourishing solo artist, her story is a testament to trusting God’s timing.
Born in Pongola, Londiwe was raised by her grandparents in Swaziland. Her formative years were spent at Our Lady of Sorrows Primary School in Swaziland before she returned to Pongola for high school, first attending Sebenza Kanzima High and later completing matric at Pongola High School. She then pursued a BEd in Economics and Management at Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria.
Unlike many gospel artists who start singing in church from a young age, Londiwe only discovered her vocal ability in Grade 11 during a Wednesday home cell service. It was a defining moment that marked the beginning of her musical journey. Although she attended church regularly, worship teams were not common in her church at the time, and she didn’t grow up actively singing in church. Interestingly, while she doesn’t come from a strongly musical family, she recalls hearing that her father was once part of a group called Amaphoyisa AsoLundi—though she’s not entirely sure if the story is true.
In 2017, Londiwe took a bold step and auditioned for Joyous Celebration in Newtown, she impressed the panel and secured her a place in the renowned gospel ensemble.

Though her time with Joyous Celebration was brief, it was impactful. She describes the choir as a school where she learned invaluable lessons about music, performance, and ministry. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Londiwe found herself deeply reflecting on her journey and working on her independence. This led her to record her debut album, Ngenzelwisimanga, and host an online worship session that allowed people to connect with her authentic worship style. By the time the world reopened, it was clear that God was calling her to step out on her own.
Londiwe’s decision to launch her solo career wasn’t necessarily planned. She already had songs written, and during the pandemic, she felt an urgency to release them. “That time we were forced to stay indoors was the time we needed to prophesy hope and sing against our situations,” she says. Songs like Umile Uyabathwala Abakhe and Uyavula Iminyango Evaliwe became anthems of faith during a challenging time.
Since then, the journey has been both rewarding and demanding. “It was difficult at first to arrange shows because I had not learned that part yet, but we are definitely rising up on the go,” she shares. As an independent artist, Londiwe has had to fund and organize everything herself—from recordings to live performances. She jokingly laments, “Jesus! Why didn’t anybody tell us finding sponsorship is so rare?”
Despite the challenges, her music has been incredibly well-received. Ngenzelwisimanga became a national anthem among gospel lovers, and her recent project, NgosokuLwephentekoste, has been embraced with just as much enthusiasm.
Londiwe is currently preparing for a major milestone—her Sizovumelana album launch, scheduled for March 1, 2025, at Christ Ambassadors Gospel Church in Vosloorus. This event will feature a blend of new and old songs, showcasing the essence of her worship journey. While she continues working on her current album, she is also seeking God’s direction for future projects.

Londiwe’s gratitude towards her supporters is profound. “Thank you for showing up when I host shows, thank you for buying my music and streaming, thank you for booking me and engaging with me on my socials. May the Lord bless you,” she says.
